A Toolbox in Your Pocket

Seven measuring tools, powered by augmented reality

AR Ruler

Point, tap, measure. Capture distances between any two points in the real world straight through your iPhone camera.

Spirit Level

Check if a shelf, picture, or surface is perfectly level. Works horizontally and vertically with a clean live readout.

Area

Measure floor or wall area by tracing the outline in AR. Perfect for renovation, decoration, or sizing a rug.

Height

Measure the height of furniture, doorways, ceilings, or anything standing tall — no ladder needed.

3D Measurement

Capture length, width, and height of any object in a single 3D bounding box. Ideal for boxes, furniture, and packages.

Angle Finder

Measure the angle between two surfaces or two points. Useful for carpentry, photography, or just checking corners.

TV Sizer

Visualize a TV at scale on your wall before you buy. Choose a screen size and see exactly how it fits the space.

And More

Quick conversions, saved history, sharing, light/dark mode, and more measuring tools added over time.

Important

Tape Measure uses Apple's ARKit to estimate dimensions through your iPhone camera. Results are approximate and depend on lighting, surface texture, distance, and how steady you hold the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Tape Measure

Is Tape Measure free?
Yes, Tape Measure is free to download and use, with no account or sign up. The core measuring tools are free. Certain advanced or specific features may be offered as an optional Premium in-app subscription, but all core tools remain free. See our Terms of Use for subscription details.
What tools are included in Tape Measure?
Tape Measure includes an AR ruler, spirit level, area calculator, height measurement, 3D measurement, angle finder, TV sizer, and more — all powered by augmented reality through your iPhone camera.
How accurate is Tape Measure?
Tape Measure uses Apple's ARKit to estimate dimensions. Accuracy depends on lighting, surface texture, distance to the object, and how steady you hold your iPhone. For everyday tasks like sizing furniture, hanging a picture, or measuring a room, it works well. For precision, professional, legal, or safety-critical measurements, please use a physical measuring tool.
What devices does Tape Measure support?
Tape Measure requires an iPhone that supports ARKit. Most modern iPhones from iPhone 6s and later support AR. Devices with a LiDAR scanner (iPhone 12 Pro and later Pro models) deliver the best precision and faster scanning.
Do I need to calibrate Tape Measure?
No manual calibration is needed. To get the best results, move your phone slowly so ARKit can map the scene, point at a textured, well-lit surface, and stay roughly arm's length from the object.
Does Tape Measure work in low light?
AR works best in bright, even lighting on textured surfaces. In dim light or on plain reflective surfaces, ARKit may struggle to track the scene and accuracy will drop. Devices with LiDAR perform much better in low light.
Does Tape Measure need an internet connection?
The core AR measuring tools work offline using your device's camera and ARKit. An internet connection is used in the background to send anonymous attribution and analytics events to our service providers, but this does not affect measuring.
Does Tape Measure collect my data?
We do not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, audio, location, or any measurement data you capture. We do collect a limited amount of anonymous data through AppsFlyer (attribution and product analytics) and Google Ads (advertising measurement) — including device model, OS version, and app events. The Apple advertising identifier (IDFA) is collected only if you grant permission via Apple's ATT prompt. None of this is linked to your identity. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
