Privacy Policy
We collect limited, anonymous data. Nothing is linked to you personally.
Effective date: May 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Tape Measure ("the App", "we", "us", or "our"), operated by The App, Inc., handles information when you use the App. The App does not require an account, name, email, or any sign up. We collect a limited amount of anonymous data through third-party SDKs for product analytics, install attribution, and advertising measurement. None of this data is linked to your identity.
Information We Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, audio recordings, location, or any measurement data you capture inside the App. We collect the following limited, anonymous data:
- Device & technical data — device model, operating system version, language, country/region, app version, time zone, coarse network type, ARKit/LiDAR capability.
- Usage data — app launches, basic interaction events (for example, "measurement started", "tool selected"), session duration, crash and performance diagnostics.
- Install attribution data — anonymous identifiers used to measure which marketing campaign or referral brought you to the App.
- Advertising identifiers — the Apple Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), only if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you decline, no IDFA is collected.
- IP address — collected briefly for fraud prevention and approximate region attribution, then discarded or truncated by our third-party providers per their policies.
This data is treated under Apple's "Data Not Linked to You" classification — it is not associated with your identity. We do not attempt to re-identify you from this data.
Camera & AR Data
Tape Measure requires camera access in order to run augmented-reality measurements. The camera feed is processed locally on your device by Apple's ARKit framework to detect surfaces and compute distances. We do not record, upload, store, or transmit the camera feed, photos, video, or any captured measurement off your device. Anything you measure stays on your device.
How the App Works
Tape Measure is an AR measuring app that uses your iPhone camera and Apple's ARKit framework to estimate dimensions, areas, heights, angles, and other measurements. The core measuring tools work locally on your device and do not require an internet connection. An internet connection is used in the background to deliver anonymous attribution and analytics events to our service providers; this does not affect measuring.
Permissions
Tape Measure requests the following device permissions:
- Camera — required for AR measuring. The camera feed is processed locally and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted by us.
- Motion & orientation sensors — used by ARKit to track your device's position in space. No raw sensor data leaves the device.
- Photos (optional) — only requested if you choose to save a screenshot of a measurement to your photo library.
The first time you launch the App, Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) system will show a system prompt asking whether you allow tracking across apps and websites owned by other companies. You can decline this prompt at any time, and you can change your choice later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. If you decline, we do not collect your IDFA.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to collect the data described above. Each service receives only the data necessary for its purpose and is contractually required to handle it according to their own privacy policy:
- AppsFlyer — mobile attribution and analytics. Used to measure marketing campaign performance, app installs, and aggregate usage events. Privacy policy: appsflyer.com/legal/services-privacy-policy.
- Google Ads (Google LLC) — advertising measurement and conversion tracking for our marketing campaigns. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- Apple — if you download the App from the Apple App Store, Apple may collect information about your download and use of the App. Apple's privacy practices are described at apple.com/legal/privacy.
We do not sell your data to data brokers. We do not share data with any third parties beyond the providers listed above.
Your Choices & Rights
You can control what is collected:
- Decline tracking. Decline Apple's ATT prompt, or change your choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Limit ad tracking system-wide. iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising lets you disable personalized ads at the system level.
- Reset your advertising identifier. iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Reset Advertising Identifier.
- Revoke camera permission. iOS Settings → Tape Measure → Camera. Note that disabling the camera will prevent the App from functioning.
- Delete the App. Removing the App from your device stops all future data collection.
If you are located in a region with applicable privacy law (such as the EU/EEA, UK, California, or Brazil), you may also have rights under GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, or LGPD — including the right to request access, deletion, or correction of any data we hold about you. Because our data is not linked to your identity, requests must include enough information for us or our providers to locate the relevant records. Contact support@theapp.biz to make a request.
Children's Privacy
Tape Measure is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because we do not collect names, emails, accounts, or any directly identifying information, the App contains no personally identifiable data tied to any user, including children. If you believe a child has provided information to us in any form, please contact support@theapp.biz and we will work with our providers to investigate and remove it.
Data Retention & Security
Anonymous analytics and attribution data is retained by our service providers (AppsFlyer, Google) for the periods described in their own privacy policies. We retain only aggregated reports derived from this data. Data in transit is protected using industry-standard TLS encryption.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Material changes will be highlighted at the top of this page.
